Does NAD always decline with age?

No simple rule fits all human blood data. A 2022 community study found sex-related differences in its age associations. A 2026 study titled “Human whole-blood NAD+ levels do not vary with age or lifestyle interventions” challenges the blanket assumption of decline. Neither result means aging has no metabolic effects; it means an automatic percentage loss for every decade is too sweeping.

What does a test kit measure?

Ask whether the specimen is whole blood, plasma, or another material; which NAD-related compounds are measured; and how collection and transport are controlled. Published work on dried blood spots addresses measurement methods. Demonstrating an assay can quantify a compound is different from proving that using the result improves health decisions.

Can you compare two laboratories?

Not safely without understanding their methods, units, specimen handling, and reference populations. A number labeled “optimal” may be a company's category rather than a validated target for treatment. Ask the laboratory for its analytical validation and the clinician what action the result would change. Repeated testing is less useful if the proposed action stays the same regardless of the result.

Are fatigue and brain fog low-NAD symptoms?

They are nonspecific complaints with many possible explanations. Age, tiredness, or slower recovery alone does not establish a coenzyme deficiency. Established nutritional deficiencies are a separate issue; vitamin B3 and NAD explains the distinction. Persistent or worsening symptoms deserve clinical evaluation rather than a supplement quiz.

When might testing be useful?

A research protocol or a clinician with a clear, evidence-based question may have a reason to measure NAD-related markers. Before purchasing a consumer test, ask what it can establish, what it cannot, the full cost, and whether it changes a meaningful decision. Avoid treating a higher repeat number as automatic proof of improved energy, cognition, or lifespan.
